The spectacular Down River climax to the World Rafting Championships in Rotorua today (Sunday) saw Brazil confirmed as the best men's rafting crew in the world, but local river expertise saw New Zealand crews excel to lock out the overall gold medals in the Women's Open and Men's and Women's Masters categories.

A red hot day on and off the water at Kawerau saw the Brazilian men's open rafting team one step closer to the overall 2013 World Rafting Championship title after a thrilling race in the Slalom leg of the event on the Tarawera at Kawerau.

The first overall winners of the 2013 World Rafting Championships have been decided with the victors in the Under-23 and Under-19 men's and women's classes being decided after an epic 45 minute down river race along the Rangitaiki River this morning.
